Swimming Pool Management

Although Engineers in charge of Swimming pool operations are certified and licensed by the State of Illinois, it is important that supervisory personnel are reminded of their responsibilities.

Swimming pool operations and maintenance have objectives that have little tolerance for variations and are listed for your reference.

Compliance with State and City health and safety legislation is an absolute necessity.

A healthy environment must be provided to protect the swimmer.

A proper chlorine residual and level must be maintained.

The preventive maintenance program for swimming pool equipment, such as gauges, pumps, filters and water heaters, must be constant.

The operation and management of the swimming pool requires close supervision of users and enforcement of safety regulations. If an unusual situation is noted, it must be brought to the attention of the instructor and school principal. The engineer’s continued vigilance will provide for safe use of the swimming pool.

Swimming pool water must be maintained at the proper temperature to retain an effective pH and chlorine residual. The daily use of a germicidal and disinfectant will prevent the spread of fungus, bacteria and many communicable diseases. Assistance is available upon request through the Cluster Leader.

Test and record the condition of your pool several times each day and visually check your pool at least twice each day. Engineers seeking transfer to schools with swimming pools must be certified by the State of Illinois
